Capgemini Plans Operations in Visakhapatnam, Potential Boost for Local IT Sector Capgemini is reportedly planning to begin operations in Visakhapatnam, a move that could strengthen the city’s growing position as an emerging technology hub in southern India. The proposed expansion is expected to contribute to the region’s employment opportunities and IT ecosystem. According to discussions held in March 2026, Nara Lokesh met with Capgemini’s CEO Aiman Ezzat to explore potential collaboration and expansion opportunities in the state. Officials have suggested establishing an IT Development Centre and a Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Visakhapatnam. If implemented as planned, the initiative could generate up to 20,000 employment opportunities in the coming years. To begin operations quickly, Capgemini is expected to start from a temporary campus near the RTC complex in Visakhapatnam, while plans for a permanent campus are being evaluated. Company representatives have reportedly explored locations in Madhurawada (Hill-1), Kommadi, and Anandapuram, considering land parcels of approximately 20–25 acres for a future facility. The proposed center may focus on advanced technology domains including: Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Generative AI Quantum Computing, aligned with the state’s Quantum Valley initiative Cloud Services and Cybersecurity Business Process Management (BPM) Speaking about the city’s potential, Minister Nara Lokesh highlighted Visakhapatnam’s growing infrastructure and connectivity, including the upcoming Bhogapuram International Airport, which is expected to enhance global access for technology companies and investors. Visakhapatnam has been attracting increasing interest from major technology firms due to its developing infrastructure, skilled workforce, and state government initiatives aimed at strengthening the IT sector. If the proposed expansion materializes, Capgemini’s presence could further accelerate Visakhapatnam’s transformation into a significant technology destination in India.
